The Importance of Self-Massage
With Love Day around the corner, today's JEMM, "Love Your Body" is quite fitting. During this JEMM, I discuss the importance of truly and genuinely loving your own body in order to become the best Lover you can be. Only when you are confident in your own skin can you truly surrender to another in the fullness of who you are and what you have to offer. When you are confident in your own body, you move with ease and grace, and you invite the other person into comfort and warmth with you, opening the doors to more exploration and fun.
In Creating Opulence and during this particular JEMM, I guide you through self-massage exercises designed to cultivate a deeper connection with your body. When you become truly comfortable with touching and tending to yourself, that skill naturally extends to how you touch and care for others—and vice versa.
Self-massage is more than just a physical practice; it’s a moment to breathe, listen, and tune in to where your body is holding tension. As you explore different areas, you begin to notice patterns—tight shoulders from stress, a clenched jaw from unspoken words, or tension in the hips from emotional storage.
From my own experience, I’ve found that the tension I hold in certain areas often mirrors what I feel when massaging someone else. This makes sense because our bodies are shaped by our experiences, and stress tends to settle in predictable places based on our emotions, habits, and even the energy we share with those around us.
By learning the language of your own body, you develop a sensitivity that allows you to be more intuitive when offering touch to others. The more you nurture yourself, the more natural it becomes to extend that same awareness, presence, and healing energy outward. Scientifically, our bodies sync with those we interact with, so it makes sense that our own patterns show up in the people we care for.
This is your invitation to take the time to get familiar with your own body, to give it the love you would give someone that you love. Your hands are the most powerful energy receivers and givers - you mold the world around you through your hands. When you touch yourself with love, you release tension while also infusing energy. The body is not just physical, but energetic, and when we release our own blockages, we help others do the same. Touching yourself with love (not just out of necessity) rewires the nervous system to receive love more openly from others.
I try to give myself a proper self-massage night at least once every two weeks - I was much more consistent in the past, but I've neglected myself for a long time now. It's time to give this body the love it's craving. I usually reserve this practice for the evening when I know I won't be interrupted, and I can create proper ambiance for sacred space. I tidy up the space, light some candles and incense, and play my favourite chilll music in the background. Then I have my homemade massage oil, usually just melted coconut oil with food-grade essential oils. A glass of wine also helps enhance the experience 😉
For Valentines Day coming up, I have included a couple of recipes straight out of Creating Opulence to share with you; you're welcomed to set up a night for your own self-massage night, or create a night of sensuality for that special person in your life. You'll notice that I've only added the edible recipes - take that as you will, and have fun!!
Edible Lover's Body Butter
Ingredients:
1/2 cup coconut oil (solid at room temperature)
1/4 cup cacao butter (melts sensually and smells like chocolate)
1 tbsp raw honey (optional, adds sweetness and a luxurious feel)
A few drops of food-grade essential oils (e.g., vanilla or peppermint – avoid citrus oils, as they can irritate the skin)
Optional: A pinch of cinnamon or ground cardamom for warmth and spice
Instructions:
Melt the coconut oil and cacao butter together in a double boiler over low heat.
Once melted, remove from heat and let it cool slightly.
Stir in the raw honey (if using) and food-grade essential oil.
Place the mixture in the fridge until it starts to firm up but isn’t fully solid (around 20–30 minutes).
Whip with a hand mixer until light and fluffy.
Transfer to a clean jar and store at room temperature (or slightly cooler if you live in a warm climate).
How to Use: Perfect for a romantic massage or as an edible treat during a couple's self-care ritual. It melts into the skin and leaves a delicious scent and taste.
Natural Edible Body Paint
Instead of artificial food dye, use superfood powders or fruit/veggie juices for rich, beautiful hues that are also nourishing for the skin!
🍓 Red/Pink – Beetroot powder, strawberry puree, pomegranate juice
🌿 Green – Matcha powder or spirulina
🌞 Yellow/Gold – Turmeric (a little goes a long way!)
🍊 Orange – Carrot juice or a mix of turmeric & beet
🫐 Blue/Purple – Blueberry or butterfly pea powder
White Chocolate Base Recipe (for smooth, creamy colors)
🍯 Ingredients:
½ cup white chocolate (melted gently)
2 tbsp coconut oil (keeps it spreadable)
Natural colorant of choice
Instructions:
Melt white chocolate and coconut oil together over low heat.
Stir in the natural colorant (powder or juice) until well mixed.
Let cool slightly before using!
💡 Pro Tips:
Avoid staining: Turmeric & beetroot can stain slightly—diluting them in oil or chocolate helps. If worried, test a small spot first.
Juice vs. Powder: Powders mix smoothly, while fresh juices may thin out the consistency—use a little at a time.
For a glossy effect: Add a drop of honey or vanilla extract.
This way, you get fun, vibrant colors without staining or synthetic dyes! Plus, it’s delicious and skin-nourishing.
For the edible body paint, keep in mind, this will get messy. You may want to get a clean, white canvas that you can play on, so that you can protect your furniture and floor - and who knows, maybe you and your partner will create an amazing masterpiece that you can keep! My suggestion would be to take turns painting each other: you can draw pictures or create beautiful lines and patterns, and even write complimentary words that express your feelings and desires for each other. When you're done with painting, you can incorporate fresh fruit to eat the paint off each other, or just start licking! 😜 I'm sure it'll be a very deliciously tantalizing night ahead!!
Be creative, connect with your body, and let your spirit free! Happy Tantra Tuesday, my fellow Lovers! The world needs your Love vibes!!
