The Spirit of Animals in our Lives

Updated: Feb 20

How the Animal Kingdom Colours our World

The world is a vast and vibrant tapestry, painted not only by landscapes and human cultures but also by the rich diversity of the animal kingdom. Every creature, from the tiniest insect to the mightiest predator, contributes to the balance and beauty of life on Earth. The richer the biodiversity of the planet, the richer our souls become. But beyond their physical presence, animals also hold an energetic frequency that we, as humans, can tap into—this is why the concept of spirit animals has existed across cultures for centuries.

The Animal Kingdom as a Reflection of the Soul

I believe that humans have the ability to channel the energy of the animals that roam this planet. Just as we can attune ourselves to the vibrations of nature, we can also align with the essence of different animals—learning their wisdom, embodying their strengths, and understanding their unique roles in the grand design of life. This is why the idea of spirit animals resonates so deeply. Whether it’s the agility of the fox, the wisdom of the owl, or the resilience of the wolf, each animal carries a lesson for us.

But what happens when the diversity of life begins to fade? When species disappear, it’s not just an ecological loss—it’s a spiritual loss. We are losing shades of color from the canvas of life, losing teachers, guardians, and messengers that help us understand our own existence. This is why it is imperative for humanity to care about preserving the diversity of animal life. Saving them is not just about conservation—it’s about preserving the very essence of what makes our world whole.

The Sacred Bond Between Humans and Animals

One of the most profound ways to experience this connection is by having a pet. Animals, when invited into our lives and loved as part of our family, reflect back to us aspects of our own souls. They teach us unconditional love, presence, patience, and the depth of emotional connection that transcends words. Having a pet reminds us of our humanity while also connecting us to something far greater—our Divine nature.

For 16 years, I had the honor of walking through life with Pan—my beloved cat, Pantalaimon. I named her after Lyra’s daemon in The Golden Compass, and just like in the story, Pan was a reflection of my soul. She was my companion through my joys and heartbreaks, my silent protector, my mirror. In The Golden Compass, children’s daemons shift forms, embodying different energies until the child matures and fully understands themselves—only then does the daemon settle into a permanent shape.

In many ways, Pan evolved with me, adapting to my energy, and in her presence, I felt deeply seen and loved all the years she was by my side.

The Golden Compass and the Power of Daemons

The Golden Compass paints a world where humans never walk alone—each person is accompanied by a physical manifestation of their soul, called a daemon. I found a clip that beautifully weaves together different scenes showcasing the deep bond between the main character, Lyra, and her daemon, Pan. In the video, they explain how children's daemons constantly change shape, reflecting their moods and state of mind, until they reach maturity—at which point their daemon settles into a permanent form. The clip also touches on a key element of the story’s plot: the sinister experiments conducted to forcibly separate children from their daemons, a process that threatens their very essence.

The Golden Compass is another book I plan to create a course for after the Smallville course. I didn't even realize they created this show, so I'm excited to watch it at some point!

These daemons act as guides, companions, and reflections of their human counterpart. A child’s daemon constantly shifts shapes, embodying different animals as they explore their identity, but as they grow into their true self, their daemon finds its final form. This mirrors how we, too, shift and evolve, discovering different aspects of ourselves through our relationships with animals.

What if, in our world, animals are our daemons? What if the pets we cherish, the animals we feel drawn to, and the creatures we admire from afar are all guiding us to understand ourselves better?

A Call to Honour and Protect

In a time when humanity often feels disconnected from nature, animals are a bridge back to our essence. They colour our world, not just with their physical presence but with the wisdom they offer. Whether we encounter them in the wild, love them as pets, or connect with them as spirit guides, they remind us that we are part of something much greater.

By honoring, protecting, and deeply connecting with the animal kingdom, we are not just saving them—we are saving a part of ourselves. And in that, we find the true beauty of a world that is whole, vibrant, and alive.

What animal are you drawn to today? What might it be trying to tell you?
